Mutations in the internalization signal of endocytic receptors prevent their interaction with ADAPTOR PROTEINS.

Adaptor proteins are important molecules in signal transduction that contain several domains that interact with specific protein molecules. In the receptor mediated endocytosis, the adaptor proteins form a linker between the endocytic receptor and clathrin receptor. Thus, any mutation in the internalization signal of endocytic receptors might prevent their interaction with the adaptor proteins.
